| Paramedics are often
in situations where a snap judgement means the difference between
life and death for their patient and paramedics must rely on
their own memory to recall treatments. They must also remember
the events in a call and details like vital signs for their
call report form. Most paramedic services use paper forms, however
many services are moving towards electronic forms which provides
an opportunity to integrate novel functionality into the new
equipment.
This project adds voice recognition, a heads-up
display, a small digital camera, and wireless communications
to a PDA to save paramedics time and support decision making.
Voice recognition allows the paramedic to record events while
their hands are busy treating a patient. This real-time event
recording allows the computer to determine drug dosages and
drug intervals. Information is displayed on a head mounted display,
including vital signs from a wireless link to the defibrillator.
