Starting as a toy designer
in Toronto, Michael moved
to England to earn a Masters
Degree in vehicle design at
the Royal College of Art in
London, before beginning his
motorcycle design career with
Piaggio in Italy. From there,
he was hired by GK Design
where he designed a variety
of production, concept and
racing motorcycles for Yamaha
Motors including the MT-03,
M1 and TZR. After nearly four
years there and rising to
senior designer, he moved
to Barcelona to establish
Type U, a design studio dedicated
exclusively to the motorcycle
industry. Today Type U employs
six designers in two countries
and has done work for Aprilia,
Yamaha, Derbi, Fischer, CSR,
Royal Enfield and others.
Michael is an active member
of the Motorcycle Design Association,
a regular contributor to CarDesignNews.com
and has lectured at several
design conferences including
the ENG Automotive Design
Summit, as well as universities
like the RCA and Humber College
in Toronto. Currently, he
teaches a Motorcycle Design
class at the IED transportation
course in Barcelona.
