The
purpose of the project is to improve the design
of the Display and Control Module found on existing
ISS spacesuits. This device allows the astronaut
to control and check the status of the spacesuit
system. However, it is awkward to operate with
a cluttered interface, hard-to-read information
display, non-visible controls, and poor ergonomics.
The project’s goal is to design a solution
with an information display that is large, unobtrusive,
and visible under all light conditions, with
controls that are organized, easy to understand,
and accessible with limited mobility. The final
design makes use of existing eye tracking technologies
to allow the astronaut to navigate around a
heads up interface using their eyes and make
selections using an integrated button on the
palm of the spacesuit glove.
