ACIDO thanks
you for entering the ROCKET 2008
Show and competition.
We have over
65 entries this year so it is going
to be a full show. See the attached
flyer for our sponsors; they have
donated some great prizes which
will be on the Rocket web site next
week.
Following are
lots of important details you will
need to know about the show. Hopefully
this will answer your questions.
Web upload
Your projects
are due to be unloaded to the Rocket
web site by this Saturday. The details
for doing this are at http://www.acido.info/rocket2008/guide.htm
Show
Set up
Set up is
on Friday May 9th at The Great Hall
1087 Queen Street West from 1pm
to 7pm.
Unloading
& Parking
There is
a side entrance on Dovercourt and
the main entrance on Queen Street,
both have steps up to the hall,
there is no elevator. There are
public parking lots nearby, there
is no parking at the venue, look
at the show info page on the web
site for their locations. You can
pull up on Queen or Dovercourt to
unload and maybe meter park, unless
there are stopping restrictions
at that time.
Judging
We have a great selection of accomplished
industrial designers who are judging
this year, watch the web site for
their bios which will be up next
week. Judging is on Saturday May
10th starting at 10am and going
until about 2pm. Students are allowed
to be there from 12 noon till 5pm,
the same as the public hours. You
may wish to be present from noon
onwards so you can discuss your
project with the judges. Note to
OCAD students-you may bring your
model at 10am Saturday for judging
if you cannot bring it on Friday
due to your grad show.
From 5pm to 7pm the venue is closed
and you may go for dinner in the
area.
Evening
Awards Show
7pm the venue opens with bar and
snacks. 7.30pm the awards ceremony
starts. You can invite family and
guests to the evening awards, but
it is not open to the general public.
Public
Show
The public show is 12pm-5pm Saturday
and Sunday. You may invite who you
wish to this, attached is the eflyer
for you to send around. You may
be present at the public show if
you wish to, but this is not a requirement.
Please notice the note below about
not leaving valuables such as laptops
unsupervised. We will have door
security to ensure no presentation
boards or models are not stolen,
but we are not ultimately responsible
for your project items.
Take
down
You must be present Sunday between
5pm- 7pm to take away your project.
If you want to take your projects
down before that, you can. Nothing
can be left at the venue Sunday
night. If you leave anything we
will have to throw it out as we
have to have the space clear by
Sunday night.
Presentation
requirements
1
– Each student will be provided
with a 3’ x 3’ floor
space. If any students have models
exceeding this size, please let
us know the dimensions of your models
ASAP so that we can accommodate
you and revise the floor plan. Please
email mike@coolersolutionsinc.com
with these details.
2
– There will be no tables
or plinths supplied. Students are
required to supply these items themselves.
In the past, students have come
up with pretty simple yet effective
solutions to display their projects.
You can make a display stand from
something as simple as a stool with
a sheet, a tall end table, a small
book shelf with a cover…….the
world is really your oyster.
Things to bear in mind; the platform
should be the appropriate height
for easy viewing of your model and
it should be stable. People will
be there to view your work, not
your stand, so don’t sweat
it.
3
– We cannot guarantee access
to power or wall sockets for displays/presentations/laptops/etc.
If any student absolutely requires
power, let us know ASAP by e mailing
mike@coolersolutionsinc.com
and we will try our best to
accommodate you. We certainly want
to avoid running extension cords
across any walking routes and we
strongly advise that you do not
rely on power access as a key part
of your presentation.
4
– As far as laptops, bags
and such go, it will be the students’
responsibility to secure their personal
items. We advise that you do not
leave these items unattended at
any time. We cannot be responsible
for any lost or stolen items.
5A
– Posters and boards.
As mentioned, each student will
be provided a 3’ x 3’
section of floor space in which
to present their work. A target
format for posters is approximately
18”x24”(ballpark). This
can be one board, or 2-3 smaller
boards (around 11” x 17”)
etc. That said, the format of the
presentation is really up to the
student. We understand the significant
cost involved in printing and that
the students have already printed
boards for their own school’s
thesis show. Should the student
wish to use any existing boards
that fully define their project
and fit into the allotted space,
that’s fine.
5B
– Content
The content of the boards is up
to the student. It should fully
explain the project such that a
judge or passer-by can easily understand
the scope of the work without requiring
the student to explain verbally.
The students name and project name
should be clearly visible so that
the judges can identify each project.
You may have your thesis report
and any process sketchbook(s) present
at the show for the judges and guests
to view. (This is not required!)
Your sketches and report are very
valuable so we suggest that they
only be left on display in your
presence! Again, we cannot be responsible
for any lost or stolen items.
6-
Easels. There will be one easel
per student available. They will
be given out on Friday set-up. If
you have more than one board, you
may need to make other plans for
displaying your boards, or bring
your own easel as well.
N.B. Posters and boards or models
cannot be taped, pinned or mounted
in any way to the walls. The Great
Hall is a historical building and
this is a stipulation of our rental
agreement.
Hope that answers your questions,
ask your student rep if you need
more details.
