My
research on death-related industry has shown
that the most out-dated and impersonal products
and services of today are our options to cherish
a life that is full of unique experiences
and memories. Most funeral homes are willing
to accommodate clients’ demand for personalization.
The problem is the general public does not
have skills and training to generate creative
solutions to what they desire. Also, few funeral
homes are equipped with experts and resources
to meet this demand. The landscape of funeral
services desperately needs designers’
perspectives and skills to tell stories that
will live on. As a response to the demand,
I have created Alo, a service that will provide
a more meaningful and diverse means to represent
our legacy. Alo will help people tell the
story of their life, celebrate their achievements,
capture the moments that matter and live forever
in their loved ones’ memories. In the
long run, I hope that Alo will play a crucial
role in changing the stale culture of death
into one that encourages people to plan and
reflect on their own legacy before it is too
late.
