Personal Ultraviolet Light Water Sterilizer

Of the one billion people that live in the undeveloped countries of the world and use unsafe water sources, 84% live in isolated rural communities and villages. This poses a problem for these rural inhabitants as most water purifying devices and systems are introduced and implemented in the urban pockets of said countries. My proposal to combat this problem is Hydres: a personal ultraviolet light water sterilizer. Hydres is a basic and inexpensive personal water sterilizer that uses ultraviolet light to eliminate harmful bacteria from found water thus creating clean, portable water for drinking and basic sanitation. To minimize waste and maximize product life cycle, Hydres also includes a human-powered crank system to deliver sufficient power to fuel the ultraviolet light bulb found in the lid component.
