Type 1 Diabetes is the most severe type affecting 8% of the diabetic population, with no known causes or cure. 43% of Type 1 Diabetics are still using the Insulin Pen and do not want to use an Insulin Pump because of the restrictions it imposes, the constant attachments and the fact that it is a nagging, continuous reminder of their condition. Multii© intends to improve the experience of managing newly diagnosed people with Type 1 Diabetes by reducing the bulk of the equipment needed to carry around, help count carbohydrates and efficiently dispose of used needles while on the move, away from the home. The design of Multii© combines a Blood Glucose Monitor, an Insulin Pen, a portable Sharps Container, a storage compartment for six new needles, a barcode scanner, ejectable test strips and a lazer lancet into a compact and portable device.
