According to Health Canada, 3% of Canadians are diagnosed with Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) while a further 15% feel some form of winter depression. The most common treatment for SAD is light therapy. The current light therapy market consists mostly of large light fixtures that the person sits in front of for 30 minutes a day. Therefore, the market encourages indoor activity, a behaviour that contributes to worsening the symptoms of SAD. There is therefore an opportunity in the market to introduce a portable light therapy device that encourages outdoor activity, a behaviour that will help treat the symptoms of SAD. This product consists of a hood with a removable strip of lights installed in the brim. The lights are powered by a rechargeable battery and feature two intensities of light. This lighted hood allows SAD suffers the opportunity to treat their condition portably and associates healing with healthy outdoor activity.
